Day 2:
| We may be WET but Austria is still cool! |
We are still struggling with jet lag here... Katie woke up around 4:15am and wasn't able to get back to sleep before George was up at 5:30am wanting food! So we had some cereal, toast and juice until Nick woke up at 6:30am and Katie went back to bed! At some point George also went back to sleep because Nick started to work on waking us both around 9:30am. Jet lag is real and it is hard!
| Enjoying the ducks at the Hilmteich lake |
| So sad! Hiding from the rain under a tree looking forlornly at the swings. |
The boys headed out to explore an hour later while Katie set to practicing. The rains were heavy and often this afternoon which made for a difficult day. The guys tried to visit a local playground but the rains chased them onto a tram into the city where they ducked into the armory. George walked in and immediately announced, "this is SO cool!".
| "Charge!" |
| "Can I get up there, please?" |
| "BOOM!" |
George was very impressed by all the armor and has changed from wanting to be a "minion" to a "knight" for Halloween this year. Katie joined them in the Hauptplatz, after which we had a quick lunch of frankfurters, bratwurst and ćevačići. George ate TWO frankfurters, half his roll, and 1/3 of Nick's bratwurst, Katie was thankful he didn't like the ćevačići! He especially liked the crunch of the frankfurter casing, a tasty difference from his hot dogs back home.
| Frankfurters! |
Then we had a very trying time getting to Schloss Eggenberg. A parade closed the trams and buses through downtown and we ended up walking over a mile in the rain (not fun, or ideal), only to arrive at the castle to find that the special children's exhibit on dragons mentioned on the website was actually in 2016! So we missed that one by a bit. This year's exhibit is about death and not recommended for children... so while George may have found that fascinating we decided against it. We wandered around the castle a bit and peeked our heads in where we could before another wet walk to the tram (thankfully back on schedule) and an even wetter walk up the hill to home.
| Hitching a ride with Daddy to the castle. |
| At last, we are almost there! |
| Soaked through, Daddy kindly surrendered his jacket (and briefly his umbrella) to George for the journey home. |
| So SO very tired! |
After warm showers, dry clothes, warm food and a movie ("The Peanuts Movie" via Netflix - George laughed a LOT, which is still just the best sound ever) George was down and out by 8:40pm tonight. Hopefully we are moving toward making it to this time zone.
