Day 7:

| Predjama Castle in Slovenia vs. three years ago |
We headed out of Graz around 9:30am for our road trip south to Croatia. While it took awhile to get out of Graz (the car’s GPS British lady is good in general, but sometimes we wonder about her) we made good time until we hit a long stretch of summer road work in Slovenia. The slow traffic got us into Predjama Castle an hour later than we had planned, but we managed to find a sliver of shade to have our picnic lunch in. George was immediately impressed by the castle in the rock so we finally (this was Katie and Nick’s third visit to the castle) bought tickets to go inside and tour it. It was very enjoyable to explore and to see how the castle was built into the 2nd largest cave system in Slovenia. George loved the Knight’s Hall, dungeon, and stone catapult balls.

Then it was back in the car for what should have been just an hour’s drive to Mune. However, the smaller border crossing we used without issue three years ago was not open to us this year. This meant backtracking and adding an HOUR to our drive. Ugh! The second attempt at crossing the border was without issue and soon we started the now familiar climb up into the green hills above the Adriatic. To say George was excited to see his cousins is the understatement of the year. And to say it was wonderful to be back in Mune would be the understatement of the decade.
