Day 6:
 |
| The kid could ride the trams and buses all day and be happy! |
Another glorious morning of sleeping in until 8:00am! I sure hope we can continue this trend when are back in Lancaster.
 |
| Happy with his "walking around meat" purchase. |
Nick took an early morning run and then went into school for some work, while Katie and George took the tram into town for fun! We stopped at the market on
Kaiser Josep Platz and searched for George's "meat lady" from his earlier visit. Seems it was the "meat lady's" day off but we found a "meat man" that was just as friendly and George walked around happy! We also picked up some local apples, apricots, and apple juice (for the coming road trip). Then we walked to the post office to mail a couple postcards before catching a bus to the city park and some playground time. Sadly, it proved to be too hot today for many kids - at least any George's age, so he was lonely and became a bit frustrated that he doesn't speak German like the other kids. Communication is hard. I hope he has better luck with his cousins in Croatia!
 |
| George enjoyed the fish monger's mural |
 |
| Neat fountain at the playground |
We met up with Nick and had some much needed ice cream before parting ways and heading up the
Schlossberg one last time. Katie and George took the funicular and Nick (because he is crazy) walked up! Something fancy was being set up on the
Schlossberg and we grabbed one of the last good tables with a view that wasn't marked "reserved". Beer, lemon and pretzel for all!
 |
| Now THAT's a pretzel! |
We took the elevator down into the coolness of the mountain before heading back to the
Hauptplatz and the #1 tram "home" to
Hilmteich.
 |
| Headed home |
We all enjoyed a little rest and quick cool rinse before walking the 2k out to
Häuserl im Wald for a delicious dinner. Thanks to a combination of tired legs and activities George actually stayed seated for the entire meal and earned a ride on Nick's shoulders on the return walk.
 |
| Washable crayons on laminated paper make a great addition to train and plane play! |
 |
| Hitching a ride home |
A full, hot, exhausting but fun final day in Graz! Tomorrow we load up the "electric smurf" and head south to Slovenia and Croatia!
